Privacy Policy

My Gem School (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides an iOS app that helps parents and guardians research and compare K–8 schools. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Intended users

My Gem School is for parents and guardians (adults) researching schools for their families. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We collect personal information from account holders, not from children.

If you believe someone under 18 has created an account or submitted personal information in error, contact support@mygemschool.com and we will delete it.

Information we collect

• Account information: Email address (for sign-in via one-time passcode).
• Location: Approximate location or zip code you provide to find nearby schools (with your permission).
• Preferences & saved schools: School search preferences, saved schools, application tracker notes, and related data you enter in the app.
• Usage & diagnostics: In-app events (e.g., searches, feature usage) to improve the product; crash/error logs when enabled.
• Feedback: Optional feedback you submit, including screen context and device identifier.
• Push tokens: Device push notification token if you enable research report alerts.
• Purchases: Records of in-app purchases and subscriptions you make through the app (product identifiers, entitlement status, report-credit balance, and which school reports you have unlocked). Payment card details are handled by Apple, not by us.
• Beta signup (website): Email address if you join our waitlist on mygemschool.com.

How we use information

• Authenticate you and sync your saved data across sessions.
• Match schools to your location, grade, and stated preferences.
• Generate AI-powered school summaries, research reports, and assessments.
• Manage subscriptions, entitlements, and report unlocks so you can access paid features you purchased.
• Send local application deadline reminders and optional push notifications when AI research completes.
• Improve reliability, security, and product quality.

Purchases

My Gem School offers in-app purchases and subscriptions (including Gem+ monthly/annual plans, a 90-day season pass, and single-report unlocks). Purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We do not receive or store your payment card number.

Purchase history and subscription entitlements are linked to your My Gem School account so we can unlock features you paid for across devices. RevenueCat acts as our payment/subscription-management processor: it receives an app user identifier and Apple purchase receipts (not payment card details) to validate purchases and sync entitlement status. Entitlement records, report credits, and report unlocks associated with your account are deleted when you delete your account (subject to reasonable backup retention periods).

Third-party services

We use trusted providers to operate the app, including:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and backend functions.
• OpenAI — AI-generated school matching, research, and assessments.
• Google Places — school photos, ratings, and enrichment (where available).
• Expo / Apple Push Notification service — delivering push notifications on iOS.
• RevenueCat — in-app purchase and subscription management (privacy policy).
• Apple — App Store billing and payment processing for in-app purchases.

These providers process data according to their own privacy policies and our agreements with them.

Data retention

We retain your account and app data while your account is active. You may export your data or delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. When you delete your account, we remove your authentication record and associated cloud data — including purchase entitlement and credit records — subject to reasonable backup retention periods.

Your rights & choices

• Access & export: Export a JSON copy of your data from Settings.
• Deletion: Delete your account from Settings (permanent).
• Notifications: Control application reminders and research push alerts in Settings or iOS system settings.
• Location: Revoke location permission in iOS Settings.

Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted transport (HTTPS), authenticated API access, and row-level security on user data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
